The only title on record is *Salem*, a single word the Bain News Service wrote on the negative or its caption card, and the record does not say which of the several American towns with that name it shows. The Bain agency, founded in New York around 1899, supplied newspapers with news and feature photographs, and its glass negatives from the early twentieth century document a wide range of American life. Because the title is unverified, the most reliable way to place this picture is to compare it with neighboring Bain negatives and their caption information.
