The record names two men executed as Arab spies in Tripoli, but the Bain News Service caption information is marked unverified and gives no date, so the particulars rest on little firm ground. The negative comes from George Grantham Bain's New York news photo service, which supplied pictures of current events to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Executions of suspected spies were a recurring wartime subject in that era, and the place name could refer to Tripoli in Libya or Tripoli in Ottoman Syria, so the setting should be read with caution.
