Sheet music covers like this one were a common way to sell songs in the 1860s, and this example pairs its title, which invokes the flag of Columbia, with a lithographed design. The cover was printed by H.C. Eno, a New York lithographer with a shop on Park Row, and it bears a copyright notice in the name of William Hall. Dated around 1865, the year the Civil War ended, it shows how patriotic songs and their illustrated covers reached home parlors eager for music about the Union and its flag.
