A loose watercolor of rooftops and trees rises toward a single white building in the distance, with washes of color doing most of the work. The record does not name the town or the artist, so the scene is best read as a landscape of its period rather than a documented place. Its placement on a board devoted to Abraham Lincoln ties it loosely to his lifetime, when watercolor was a common medium for amateur and professional painters in the United States. Notice how the far building fades to a pale shape while the nearer roofs stay crisper, a common way painters of the era created depth with very little detail.
