This glass negative is labeled with the name Minerva Auerbach, but that title came from the National Photo Company's own notes and has not been independently verified, so the sitter's identity should be treated with some caution. The plate is dated to roughly 1921 to 1924, based on other negatives in the same range. The National Photo Company ran a large commercial studio in Washington, D.C., and its glass plates, given to the Library of Congress, document a wide range of the city's people and events in the early twentieth century. Viewers may notice streaks and blemishes, which come from the natural deterioration of the original coatings over time.
