The world itself is the dessert in this one: a globe dressed up as a plum pudding, with William Pitt and Napoleon Bonaparte seated at the table, each reaching in to carve off a share. James Gillray etched the scene, and H. Humphrey published it in London in February 1805, when Britain and France were at war and both leaders were pressing for dominance in Europe. The subtitle's "petit souper" casts the rivals as guests at a late-night feast, so the joke turns high-stakes diplomacy into greedy table manners. The hand-coloring gives the pudding its rich tones and makes the satire look almost appetizing.
