Just moved" takes its title from a scene of household change, a familiar subject in American homes in the 1870s, when moving to new quarters was a common part of family life. The composition is by Henry Mosler, a genre painter whose domestic scenes were widely reproduced, and the New York firm of A. & C. Kaufmann turned it into a color chromolithograph. That process used a separate stone for each hue to imitate oil paintings at a modest price. Prints like this one brought art into middle-class parlors and show how family life was pictured for a broad public in the years after the Civil War.
