Bernard Naudin's 1916 lithograph promotes a French National Orphans Day, and its title, *Journée nationale des orphelins*, names the cause plainly. The "1914-1916" lettering marks how long the war had already dragged on when the poster was printed. Fundraising days like this one were a common home-front effort, asking families, schools and towns to support the many thousands of children whose fathers had died in the fighting. Its bold colored lettering reflects the direct appeals poster designers used to catch the attention of people passing through city streets.
