Issued for a single day of fundraising, this two-color lithograph announces a Calvados Day on August 15, 1915, with proceeds going to war charities serving the Calvados department in Normandy. It is signed by C. Léandre, the French caricaturist and illustrator Charles Léandre, known for his sharp, exaggerated figures. Local "journées" like this were a common wartime method in France for raising money for soldiers and their families, and the poster's bold, simplified style was meant to be taken in quickly from a street wall.
