The title alone tells you what this stereograph is: "A Bran New Coon in Town" uses a racial slur to cast its subject as a figure of ridicule. The card, copyrighted by B.L. Singley and issued by the Keystone View Company, was made for parlor viewing, and such cards often relied on stock comic types, especially in the 1890s, when minstrel-derived caricature was common in American popular culture. The record says little about the scene itself, so the card is best read as evidence of how Black Americans were routinely mocked in commercial imagery of the period.
