Charles Chaplin's 1921 feature The Kid is best remembered for its tender, comic pairing of his Tramp character with young Jackie Coogan, and this lobby card points to one of the film's best-known sequences, the pram scene. Lobby cards like this were printed in sets and displayed in theater lobbies to advertise a movie to passersby, so they were built to catch a viewer's eye at a glance. The Kid was one of the first feature-length films Chaplin made, and it helped establish the mix of slapstick and sentiment that defined his work. Its story of a abandoned child and the man who raises him still reads as one of the most affecting pieces of silent-era cinema.
