A young girl in a wheelchair is the focus here, shown being greeted by Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was governor of New York when this photograph was taken in 1932. The record identifies her as Mary Frances Jasper and places the setting at Warm Springs, Georgia, where Roosevelt had gone for treatment after contracting polio in 1921. He later turned the resort there into a treatment center for people with paralysis, and its warm water became part of his own rehabilitation.
