Rather than showing soldiers or sweethearts, this 1915 German poster puts artillery positions at the center of its title, and its subject tags tie it to Karlsruhe and to fund raising. By 1915 the war at home depended as much on money and public appeals as on the front lines, and posters like this one were meant to draw civilians into that effort. Color lithograph posters were printed in large runs and pasted on city streets and public buildings, where they reached crowds cheaply. The record does not name the sponsoring organization, so the exact appeal is best read from the image and its wording.
