Few Federal theater Project productions were built around a Bible story, and this poster promotes one that drew on Noah's ark and African American spirituals. Its silkscreen color and bold, flat shapes reflect the method the WPA's poster units used to advertise theater, concerts, and classes during the Depression. The Federal theater Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, put unemployed actors, writers, and designers to work, and it staged productions across the country, including in California. Posters like this one were often the only printed advertising a production could afford.
