The focus here is a Detroit office of the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroad, a line whose tracks ran across Ohio and Indiana. The image is an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative, dated between 1900 and 1910, and it came from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that photographed American cities, rail lines and scenic sites on a large scale in those years. Offices like this one handled tickets, freight and shipping arrangements, so the building shows how central the railroads were to commerce in the early twentieth century.
