A 1910 glass negative titled simply *Horse Show* from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied news pictures to newspapers. The title was recorded from the negative or caption card without verification, so the specific event, venue and riders are not identified here. Horse shows were popular in the early twentieth century, drawing crowds to city armories and fairgrounds, where judges ranked saddle horses, hunters and carriage teams. The format of these competitions says as much about the social life of the period as about the animals.
