The only identifying detail for this picture is its title, "Gorden," which the Library of Congress lists as unverified and taken from notes on the negative or its caption card. The record gives no date or photographer, so the subject is uncertain. It is a glass negative of five by seven inches or smaller, part of the George Grantham Bain Collection. Bain News Service, which Bain ran in New York, sold photographs of news events, public figures, and everyday scenes to newspapers in the early twentieth century, and its glass negatives remain a useful record of that period.
