Dated May 11, 1921, this glass negative shows New York police, though the title and date come from notes the National Photo Company wrote on the negatives or their sleeves and have not been independently verified. The National Photo Company was a Washington, D.C., studio that produced news and commercial photography, and its negatives reached the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. Because the image is on glass, it may show streaks and blemishes from deterioration of its original coating, which is worth keeping in mind when judging fine detail.
