George McManus signed this drawing in the lower left of its thirteenth frame, and it is built in India ink over pencil, with watercolor and scraped-out highlights on heavy Bristol board. The caption, in which Mrs. Smith urges a call to see the Jones's baby, places the strip's domestic humor in an ordinary neighborly visit. McManus was known for *The Newlyweds*, the newspaper feature that made the baby Snookums a familiar figure, and the 1912 to 1918 date range falls within the years that feature was running. The sheet later came to the Library of Congress as a gift from Caroline and Erwin Swann and was shown in the 1971 traveling exhibition *The Art of the Comic Strip*.
