Its title, "I feed you all!", is the most distinctive thing about this color lithograph, which the American Oleograph Company of Milwaukee printed around 1875 and entered for copyright in Washington that year. The firm was one of several in the Midwest that produced inexpensive chromolithographs after the Civil War, when colored prints like this were sold to ordinary households and hung on parlor and kitchen walls. Such prints were often called oleographs because they imitated the look of oil paintings, and their cheerful sentiments made them popular with buyers. The record says little more about the scene, so its subject is best read through the title and the commercial world that produced it.
