Drawn in 1955 for Mr. and Mrs. Mel Blumberg of Clinton, Iowa, this rendering shows the house from the southeast, with the long horizontal lines and open plan that Frank Lloyd Wright favored in his Usonian houses of the postwar years. Wright designed these homes for middle-income families, often pairing low-pitched roofs with wood and masonry set close to the ground. The drawing is executed in color pencil and graphite on tracing paper, a medium architects used to convey a design's mood and setting before construction. Wright's name appears in the inscription, and the sheet came to the Library of Congress as a 2000 gift as part of the Kenneth H. Walker collection of architectural drawings.
