Printed in 1942 for the War Production Board's Bureau of Industrial Conservation, this poster asks American households to save their used cooking fats. Fats mattered to the war effort because glycerin, which could be made from them, went into explosives, and fats also went into soap and other necessities. Home cooks were asked to pour kitchen drippings into collection containers and turn them in to local butchers, who passed them on for processing. The poster belongs to a broader wartime campaign that asked civilians to conserve scarce materials on the home front.
