Few aviators of the period drew as much attention as Charles Lindbergh, and this glass negative places him at Bolling Field, the Army air station on the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C. The title spells the name "Bolly," a likely slip by whoever labeled the plate, and the date of about 1929 is inferred from neighboring negatives rather than stated outright. The National Photo Company, a Washington commercial studio, produced thousands of plates covering the city's public life. Faint streaks and blotches on the glass come from the gradual deterioration of the original coatings, which is common in plates of this age.
