This print is catalogued as a Masonic record, a printed document of the kind lodges used to record membership and affiliation. Its July 14, around 1890, date and its deposit with the U.S. Copyright Office suggest it was registered as a published print of that period, when fraternal organizations often commissioned decorative certificates with ornamental borders and emblems such as the square and compasses. The catalog card linked to it names Kimberly Hudson, but that attribution is unverified, so the maker and original owner remain uncertain. Printed records like this one show how Freemasonry presented itself to its members in the late nineteenth century.
