This is a printed Masonic record, a form of the kind lodges used to document membership and related fraternal business, dated 1872 in the catalog. The catalog entry links it with the firm Ferd. Mayer & Sons, which appears on the shelflist card, though that attribution is unverified. In the nineteenth century, lodges often ordered such forms as decorative lithographs, with ornamental borders and Masonic emblems like the square and compasses, and printing houses turned them out in quantity. The piece is worth a close look for its design as much as its text, since the printed illustrations show how fraternal organizations presented their identity to members.
