Titled simply *Christmas eve*, this print comes from the shelflist card of Raphael Tuck & Sons, the London firm that built a large business in greeting cards, postcards and color prints in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Library's record is unverified, and its date is only a tentative August 18, but it also notes a U.S. Copyright Office deposit, a sign that such images were registered for protection and sold on both sides of the Atlantic. Tuck's holiday designs were often sentimental domestic scenes meant to be mailed or framed, and this one fits that tradition of Christmas as a season of home and hearth.
