An Unselfish Love was an Edison film from 1910, and this color lithograph poster, numbered 5851 in the Edison catalog, advertised it to theater audiences of the day. The record names Mabel Trunnell as a performer and places the story on a Canadian farm, a setting that suited the rural melodramas common in early one-reel films. Posters like this one were printed in large runs and pasted on theater fronts and street boards, so they were meant to catch a passerby's eye in a few seconds.
