This glass negative pairs three women, identified only as Mrs. R. Crain, Mrs. N.E. Mack, and Mrs. T. Taggart. The record gives no date, and the names come from caption cards that the Library of Congress has not verified, so the sitters' identities remain uncertain. The Bain News Service, the New York photo agency whose founder, George Grantham Bain, gave the collection its name, supplied pictures to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Its small glass plates were built for fast, practical work, and many of its portraits were taken to accompany news stories about the people in them.
