An electric kitchen, as the title announces, is the subject of this 1894 engraving, which was sketched from a working installation rather than invented. It appeared on page 119 of volume 1 of *The Woman's Book*, a late-Victorian household guide that addressed women's domestic work, self-support, and education. Electric lighting and small motor-driven devices were still new in the 1890s, so a kitchen shown in operation spoke to a household future that many readers had only begun to imagine. The record's caption tracings place it under women, interiors, and electricity, a reminder of how closely these topics were linked in the period's reform writing.
