Identified in the title as O-ko-a-po-bi, this half-length portrait shows a Hopi sitter seated and turned toward the right, with the clothing and dress that the catalog headings single out. It is a color halftone reproduction of a painting by E.A. Burbank of Chicago, and the copyright in his name reflects how widely such paintings were reproduced in print around 1900. Portraits of Native American sitters were popular then, and reproductions like this carried a painter's work to audiences far beyond his studio. Worth noticing is how the halftone process built up the colors of the original painting from small printed dots.
