Maurice Tabuteau, a French aviator, is shown here at the moment of winning the Michelin Cup in 1910. The cup was offered by the tire maker Michelin to reward notable flights, and in the early years of powered flight such prizes drew pilots, manufacturers and crowds to airfields across France. This photoprint was issued by the France-Reportage agency, and its caption information comes from an older card that has since been revised, so the exact details of the event are worth checking against other sources.
