Dogs being fed aboard the German liner Kaiserin Auguste Victoria set this scene apart, captured on June 22, 1910. The ship belonged to the Hamburg America Line and was named for Empress Augusta Victoria, consort of Kaiser Wilhelm II. It sailed the transatlantic route between Germany and New York in the years before the First World War. The picture comes from George Grantham Bain's news-photo collection, which documented the daily life of ocean liners and the pets that traveled with well-to-do passengers, though the caption details are unverified.
