We enjoy "Twin Oaks" on highway C in Wilmot. It is a French country restaurant which has been in business for over 5 years. We live in Chicago without a car, but we rent one about three times a year to drive out there. The Owner/chef trained under Jean Banchet from Le Francais, and the food benefits from that experience..

The entrees lean heavily towards poultry and seafood, but beef is also served. The portions are huge, while the prices are nearing "Chicago" now that it is becoming more popular. However, it is a great value. We love it.

Regards, Jim M.

If you're willing to come up I-90 to Rockford, there's a really nice place called Cliffbreakers - a little expensive, but good menu. Overlooks the Rock River. It's located at Riverside & Main, next to North Towne Mall.

I whole heartedly second this recommendation. My husband and I just celebrated our 17th anniversary there on the 20th. Wonderful food, wonderful service, great price for the quality and quantity of food received. I ordered the steak and asked them to add crab and bernaise sauce. I got a huge steak, and a huge portion of the crab for only an additional $5. The total bill was in the neighborhood of $85. We had apetizers, a bottle of champagne, dinner and dessert -- although the dessert may have been complementary as we told them in advance in was our anniversary.

Even if you are not a smoker, ask for the table in the front room of the restaurant that overlooks the porch and the lawn that fades away into the view of the quaint street that winds down from their driveway! You'll feel like you're in Mayberry!!
