And yes, Park Central is the Sears building rebuilt into five entertainment/club environments. The Fire Alarm is still going and has a brisk clientele too. I am not a club-goer myself. These are the regular drops I do as a night driver for the taxi company. The restaurant at the Best Western (Midway Motor Lodge/ Left Guard) is called Paretti's featuring some sort of Chicago style pizza. The Holiday Inn may have a good 'brunch' as well. Appleton Holiday Inn is known as one of the best in the US and I've eaten there myself. Their dining room is known for it's abundant "Wisconsin-style" entrees. This means you can get filled up there. :-) > They want to meet the locals, too. Good folks. The >one called Green Bay "the Bethlehem of the NFL" and vowed he'll be in awe of >the history and culture during the entire visit. "The Bethlehem of the NFL" hey? John you are a phrasemaking smoothie. The news is that there is no 'locals' culture anymore. We have McDonalds and Home Depot like everyone else. >Now Champagne Charlie's I remember! What building did they move into? That would be the Gibson Grill closer to the town center. The building was empty for many years previous to that. I think some of the car stuff is still in there. >> _Wisconsin New Month_ magazine has the best dining guide >> and restaurant reviews from the whole area. > >Do they have a website? These guys won't get to town until around 10pm SAT, so >they'll need a decent plan ahead of time. I don't think New Month wants a website or has one, unless they would publish just the 'compendium' section which has all the events and best places to dine (read gentry) in it. > >>Lastly, one of the reasons that wi.northeastern.talk >> got started was to exchange just this sort of information >>not available through other newsgroups. >> >> So I hope some others, lurking or active, will add some >>things to this. > >I'm really glad you started this group up, Lon, and I hope others pitch >comments forward, too. Thanks. John, I know that you helped a lot with your support in the early days in getting the group established at AOL. So my thanks in return as well. > >- John Foote
