La Lomita on Capitol Hill (there's a sister restaurant further down PA Ave away from the capitol as well) is wonderful. It's like a little bit of the south west transported to d.c.

The Rio Grand in Bethesda.
During my 3 years in Baltimore it was the only edible Mexican I could find out there...and yes I tried just about everything I heard about.

Now that I'm back in Colorado it's not a problem...:)

I can strongly recommend Anita's in Vienna, VA if they're still there that is (It's been 5 years since I lived in D.C.). I wish we had Anita's up here in Boston. *sigh*. Great salsa, great re-frieds, great soapapillas (sp?) with honey bears.:)

Hello,

In Arlington, VA for 1/2 the price of Rio Grande and no wait you can eat at the El Paso Cafe on Pershing Drive (near the corner of Glebe Road and Pershing).

It's a great place: food, service and price. Like many local D.C. "tex-mex" restaurants, it has many Salvadorean specialties, also.

Enjoy!

Right, in fact there is a "hole in the wall" restaurant a block and a half east of Rio Grande which was opened by a woman from Mexico. Home style Mexican cooking. Very good, and cheap! Check it out. Right across from the Ballston Metro exit on Fairfax Drive.
