A net pal and I decided to meet today at Lotte's at Fairfax Circle, Rt 50 just W of Lee Hwy. WOW! What a great place. The whole front section is an enormous Oriental grocery store, including sections for fresh seafood, produce, meat, and prepared foods, and a bakery in the back. I did some shopping while I was waiting for my friend. They must have at least 20 different varieties of nori. But the best part is the little food court in the back, in front of the fountain. There is a Japanese noodle and soup room, a Korean specialties room, Korean desserts, and best of all, a sushi bar. We got a deluxe sushi platter and split it two ways, only $13.00. I think there were about 12 pieces of sushi, plus 6 pieces of maki. The same meal at Sushi King in Columbia would have been about $25.00. For dessert we had a Korean shaved ice thing called something like "Puet Bean Soup". Pretty unusual, but probably not for everyone. One thing was obvious, we were almost the only Euros in the place. Lotte's is apparently THE place to shop and eat for the NoVa Oriental community. It was like being in a foreign country (except you know that the U.S. is right on the other side of those doors), an altogether exotic experience. Kind of like Maxim's in Silver Spring, only more so :) Write me if you need directions. ==================================================== Sushiqueen personal mail: [email removed] business mail: [email removed] "Music is the best means we have of digesting time." -W.
