If East Dorset is near Manchester, and I think that it is, there are a number of great inns and good food places in the area. Manchester is 30 miles or so north of Bennington in the southwestern part of the state. Check out the Reluctant Panther or the Equinox Hotel, or the Wilburton Inn. These are good food places and the hotel is the center of the more scenic portion of Manchester. We stayed at the Wilburton last year and really liked it, but its not in town. Ira Clair Mulligans is a great restaurant when you're hungry and just want as much plain prime rib for an incredible price as you can get.
