Went to the Dickens Inn at the St. Katherine's Dock Marina site, near Tower Bridge. Nice place to sit and have beer in the garden. BUT -- It is not to be recommended for food ( in the Restaurant -- there is a pizza parlor downstairs that we did not try). The food was prosaic at best -- I had to send my steak back because, although I ordered it rare, it was almost crisp. The second one was only marginally better, and stringy and fatty. The veg were soggy. The service, as it is in much of such places in the summer, was vague, confused, and inept -- a group of foreign students on a summer lark. And the price for two was exorbitant -- well over 80 pounds
$120). Just a big Pub! ( I thought we would get a nice meal and ordered knowing the price, but this was bummer. The kind of meal that runs about 35 to 40 pounds for two all over the country, and usually much better.) St Katherine's Dock is chic and hot with tourists, and the Dicken's Inn is coasting on the assumption that no one will ever be back. I plan to go to that area to stay often, but I sure won't eat there again. R. J. Fusillo Atlanta
