Restraunts in Preston

Take the turning signposted Roach Bridge on the A59 going east on the A59, shortly after the motorway junction. Usually very reliable. Solo's at Goosnargh. Can be very good indeed, but can also be average. I read recently about an Austrian restaurant that's just opened in Preston (Cross Street??), but know nothing about it. The Cromwellian at Kirkham is well regarded, but I've not been for at least ten years. If you can make it as far north as Junction 33, the Bay Horse pub at Bay Horse, just south of Jnctn 33 & signposted off the A6 can be good. If you enjoy wine, make a detour to Byrne's in Clitheroe, one of the best independent wine merchants in the country, and while you're there, you can eat at the Auctioneer, though I would not want to make a special journey just to eat there. You're in a good part of the country for striking out a bit further. You're in reasonably easy reach of the Angel Inn at Hetton, near Skipton, which is well worth the detour. A bit further on is the Box Tree at Ilkeley, but imo that's a bit overpriced and overrated. Going towards Manchester, there is Ramsbottom Victuallers at (oddly) Ramsbottom - some suggestion in the 2000 Good Food Guide that they're opening an Italian enoteca sort of wine bar operation - and a bit further on Nutters at Cheesden near Rochdale, which can be very good. Then you have Manchester of course. HTH Andrew From [email removed] Thu Sep 23 15:21:04 EDT 1999 Article: 2025 of uk.food+drink.restaurants

The Salamander Steak House in the cellar below the Conservative Club in Guildhall St. tries hard under chef Graham Rigby but sometimes it can be really good and sometimes it can be really bad. I must admit though that it is a while since I have been in either restaurant. I would be interested to hear some recent reports.
