Hi Reading has a number of interesting restaurants - ranging from chain pubby restaurants that are samey, and a few gems hidden away. The London Street Brasserie http://www.londonstbrasserie.co.uk is consistently good at lunchtime with a fixed price menu and has a nice a la carte menu also. I like the gravadlax for starters, which they home cure. Very nice. Topo Gigio is another place that I've had meals at - Italian food, with fantastic risottos. I also like the Don Beni restaurants, part of a small local chain - there's one in Winkfield - I think there's one near Slough (Charvil?) as well. My brother and sister in law had their celebration there (very noisy dinner) after his wedding. Noisy, fab pizza and pasta and great seafood.
