Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, off Fleet Street in Wine Office Court, is a fine old pub ("rebuilt in 1667", as the sign says), and has a pleasant wood-panelled dining room with British favourites, like roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, done quite nicely, and the prices should be in your range. Sam Smith's ales from the handpumps, some wine available too - just ask. Children are allowed in the dining room, too. The place is well infused with history; sit in the right corner, and you could be sitting in Dr. Johnson's favourite place.

There is a pub across from Covent Garden called the Marquis of Anglesley (sp). The upstairs resturant is quite good for a reasonable dinner. I have been there on three different trips and quite satisfied. i remeber having curry once and a lamb dish on another occassion.

I would also recommend a chinese restuarant just of Leister Square, but I can't remember the name of it. It has three or four levels and people are packed in on long bench type tables, but the food was great. I'd been hoping the name would come back to me but it hasn't.
