The nearest Indians are in Ilfracombe or Barnstaple, though I've not tried them. There's a Chinese takeway in Woolacombe itself, though it's only open evenings, and I'm always a daytime visitor. Not much use so far, eh? However, I can comment on the general nosh situation: not particularly good. There are a few restaurants in the village, but none of any real merit. If I'm hungry I'll usually have a bar meal at the Red Barn - the drinks are good, specially the frozen Margeritas, and the the place is full of surf-bunnies. :-) There's an excellent fish & chip shop in Braunton, right on the main road, you can't miss it. Huge portions, great quality, eat in or takeaway. The Rock Inn at Georgeham does fairly good nosh - it's getting more ambitious every year. But for a truly memorable experience, try the The Buttery in Mortehoe. An eccentric restaurant with an even more eccentric owner. Service can be swift or agonisingly slow, depending on the phase of the moon & its aspects to Pluto. The food is in HUGELY HUGE quantities and the menu bizarre. After repeated visits, I can recommend the Fisherman's Prawns as starter, and either the rack of ribs or the Surf'n'Turf for a main. Take a large appetite & a sense of humour. And check the bill: it's invariably wrong, but always in your favour. I still remember the evening when 4 of us got through 3 litres of House White - the empty carafes were still on the table, and we were charged for 3 glasses. Not that cheap - about £9-£15 for a main - but you can't put a price on genius, however warped. The whole area between Lee Bay and Woolacombe is just beautiful - when I snuff it, my ashes will be scattered on Morte Point.
