It is: L'Estaminet 14 Garrick Street London WC2. 0171 379 1432 We popped in on a Tuesday night without booking, (but I would suggest booking), the food was lovely as was the service. It is French if you like that sort of food, located between Covent Garden and Charing cross road. One of those nice little finds. They have a pre dinner set menu if your short on money. We must of spent around £40 to £50 per head, not sure as my step son paid. That was for apperitifs, starters, mains, two bottles of wine, and one dessert. They also have a lovely cheese cart with some nice looking French cheese, I was too full when it came around. Good luck and Bon Appetit! Pat -- To reply remove the flower. Docklands isn't an area I find myself in very often these days (ever since the Jubilee Line office moved out). The only place I can think of is Yellow River, which is a bar that I think offers Thai style bar snacks and has a restaurant on another floor. There is a huge amount of development going on in that area at present so many of the chains have probably arrived. Across the river at Bermondsey there is a lot of choice, much of it expensive. On Friday night I went to the Bengal Clipper, just off the river front. It now does a set dinner menu for £8 - and as a result there were more diners there than I've ever noticed before as I walked past. I also like Butler's Wharf Chop House, one of the several Conran owned restaurants with good river views. I've got a few more suggestions on my website (URL below). You can also find links to other review sites on my links page.

A little gem of art deco and cuisine bourgeois hidden behind a frontage that makes you think it's the local Chinese. My only provisos would be a) book in advance; they got amazing Hardens and Zagat ratings this year, so it's not as possible to get a table at only a few day's notice as it was and b) either bring a very large wallet or take advantage of their ten pound corkage on wine and bring a bottle of something special (the partner and I usually arrange a trip to Berry Bros beforehand to get the full effect ;-). On the nowhere near as pricey level, there's quite a decent Loch Fyne about half a mile further up Hampton Hill High St. Kingston itself is a dump, full of uneducated/able teenagers after six on a Saturday, you don't want to eat there. Just waiting for a sunny weekend now. My husband took me to Sheene Mill in Melbourn (www.stevensaunders.co.uk) he of "celebrity chef status" and he did not disappoint. The restaurant was very quiet and we could see Steven in the kitchen cooking up our dishes. Each dish was presented well, and the taste of each course was like fireworks in our mouths. Its quite pricey at around £50 per head for 3 courses and coffee, not including wine, but worth the expense. Recommended is the duck in red wine and black olives, and the orange and grand marnier souffle, but the menu does change periodically. There is also a lovely champagne bar overlooking the river. Excellent service too.
