Passage To India 170 Heston Rd, Hounslow Middlesex, TW5 0QU I was taken by an Anglo-Indian colleague who always raves about the meat dishes, eats there often and insisted I would love it. Notable main dishes sampled (they did a wide range of ½ portions for my friend so we could try more than a couple) included chickens hariyali and shashlik and lamb chops. Pleasingly, subtle but evident flavour and spot on tenderness were the order of the day rather than the over the top spicing and intense heat that some folks churn out*. All the sundries were a tad above the standard curry house fare with the plain boiled basmati having that great hint of nuttiness I like, the dhal a nice gloopy consistency rather than runny and superb chapati as distinct form the more widely offered tandoori naan. By the way, it seems the delicious kulfi is homemade here though I'm no expert so accepted this at face value. Lastly, and I know that it is barely relevant in an Indian restaurant, but the filter coffee was really good and kept me awake and alert for the long drive back to east London. Menu prices were on a par with other local curry houses so represents good value as the food was a cut above the rest (I say menu prices because a 'friends and family' discount was applied to our bill). So, if you ever have to pick someone up from Heathrow or have a business meeting in this part of the M4 corridor, the Passage To India is a very passable place to while away an hour or so. bignoseduglyguy :-) Article 17590 of uk.food+drink.indian:

I'm about 200M north of Canary Wharf ... Rex I didn't know anyone on the list was so local. I live about 800m SE of Canary Wharf Tower - eight short stops on the DLR from The Lahore! Where do you eat locally? My usual haunts are: Takeaway: The Bhaji (t/away only) Chapel House Street, E14 Value: The Lahore, Umberston Street, E1 Treat: Zeera, under The Green Bridge, Mile End Road, E1 Home: At home during Eid etc (70% of my neighbours are Bengali and we swap food during festivals - now they know I use halal meat). Old haunts not tried recently: Value: The (New) Tayyab, Fieldgate Street, E1 Curry House: The Gaylord, Manchester Rd, E14 Curry House: The Lancer, Westferry Rd, E14 Curry House: Mem Sahib (formerly Namaste) Amsterdam Road, E14 Maybe we should see if we can convince Si to finally make the trip up to have a session at the Lahore or the Tayyab. bignoseduglyguy Article 2660 of uk.food+drink.chinese:
