I frequently travel from Austin to San Marcos and sometimes, but less frequently, to New Braunfels. Any food recommendations in either of those areas, or in the I-35 corridor between either of them and Austin? In San Marcos, I've been to Pepper's, San Marcos River Pub & Grill (at Rio Vista Dam), Fuschak's Pit BBQ, Luby's, Furr's, Chili's Grill & Bar, Pizza Hut, Taco Cabana, and Wendy's. I tend to prefer informal, cafeteria- or buffet-style places but am open to any suggestions.

San Marcos, New Braunfels: Where to Eat
NNTP-Posting-Date: Mon, 06 Apr 1998 08:25:13 CST Xref: pale-rider.INS.CWRU.Edu austin.food:1882 Try the Huisache Grill in downtown New Braunfels on San Antonio street, one block off the Plaza, next to the railroad crossing - a fun spot for locals.
How about combining the thread above(Best cheeseburgers) with this San Marcos question? Try Grin's in San Marcos--go for the #4 special.I love this place! The decor is nice and it's has a great deck to sit on also. By the way, did you know Pepper's has closed and there is a "Joe's Crab Shack" in its' place? First the school bought Aquarena and got rid of Ralph the Swimming Pig and now they shut down Peppers to bring Houston/Austin to a nice little place. says... In New Braunfels, I recommend Oma's Haus - definitely informal - good, hardy German food (don't ask me if it's authentic or not - I wouldn't know). I enjoyed it quite a bit a few years ago - I haven't been back in a while so can't vouch from recent experience, but it didn't seem like a place that would change much.
