I live right on I-35, and had noticed that this place had opened in the building that used to be Mi Madre's. I walked over there one day just to check out the menu and it had pretty standard stuff so I decided I would eventually give it a try. I went today for the first time. It was great! I ordered the "Tex-Mex cheese enchilidas" (the only dish that can be used to judge a Mexican restaurants worthiness). Chips and salsa were brought to the table right away and the salsa was excellent. Our order came out quickly (there werent many people there even though it was lunchtime, I guess not many people know about it). The enchilida dinner comes with three enchilidas (beef, cheese, or chicken) beans, rice, and a small salad of lettuce and tomatos on the same plate as the meal. Here's what made the meal so good, this was the closest I've gotten to the famed "San Antonio style enchilidas". In fact my roommate, who was with me and also order the cheese enchilidas said the same thing (he's from San Antonio). The enchilidas were very cheesey and did not have that heavy, meaty sauce that makes me think of Chuy's, El Mercado, or even Enchilidas y Mas. Also, finally I had some decent beans in this city. In my opinion the beans at Chuy's, Curra's, and even El Patio (the beans there are not that good, but at least I dont leave them on the plate like at Chuy's and Curra's), are awful. The beans at Su Casa were great, they had a good flavor and did not require any salt added (a first for me in Austin, La Reyna, as far as I can remember, being the exception). The rice was also very good, and had a small amount of peas and carrots mixed in for added flavor. My only complaint was the the enchilidas could have been spicier, as they were very mild. Other than that everything was great. I hope this place does well and survives, as it is within walking distance of my apartments. They currently are waiting on their licence to sell beer, until then the owner told my its BYOB. She hopes to shortly be selling beer and margaritas. Su Casa is located on the N. I-35 access road on the corner with Edgewood (which is basically 33rd. St. The actual address is 3301 N. IH-35. James
