I really like the Saltwater Grill, on Post Office, and Di Bella's, on 31st St. Try posting in houston.eats. I just returned from there yesterday and agree with the comment about Saltwater Grill. The food is very good--try the gumbo, bouillabaisse and cioppino. One warning--the portions are absolutely huge. Each entree can easily serve two or three. I am a pretty big eater and make it a habit not to complain about portion sizes but I couldn't eat half of my meal. We also like Rudy and Paco's. South American food that is reasonably priced and well done. Lots of locals there at lunch which is usually a good sign. Before our trip I e-mailed Robb Walsh of the Houston Press for suggestions and he gave a great tip. He touted Stingaree on Crystal Beach. We loved it. The food is simple but great. Everything is made from scratch all we tried was first rate. The place was packed at lunch and for good reason. The specialty is BBQ crabs which are worth the trouble of cracking and digging into. We also tried the Stig's platter--a varied selection of broiled items. It was definitely worth the drive to Crystal Beach (you take the Bolivar Island Ferry from Galveston). We tried no fried items but several tables around us were eating fried shrimp, oysters and soft shell crabs and everyone was raving. I will definitely return there! It was just great! It is only a short drive from Galveston, just across on the ferry and then about a 10 minute drive into Crystal Beach. Don't miss it if you visit the area! William [email removed]
