Lunchtime business was hopping, all tables full, with a clientele looking a lot like that of Carmen's (La Tapatia) in the old days: brown, black, and white; young and old; people dressed for all kinds of work (or for retirement). Takeout was extremely busy. This was the first visit in decades. The carnitas were not the kind that I prefer (I loved those that Tula used to serve); in other words, after being roasted, the pork had not been gilded in a frying pan, probably in some lard! The other person at the table enjoyed his cabrito. What tortillas were on the table I forgot to ask, but both corn and wheat were of the thin, crepe-like variety and very tasty. The standout: charro beans, and the very best tasted in ages and ages. Another time I'd try carne guisada (still looking for a substitute for the dish at the old Casita Jorge's).
