I dropped in the day after they opened and sampled the only beer they had available which was decent. I was somewhat surprised to find that the place is more of a restaurant, than a bar. While there, we tried their cornbread with mushrooms and goat cheese. Pretty good! I also enjoyed a spinach salad there. I spoke with a friend who also visited recently. He said the kitchen was *extremely* slow.

I'll return. I look forward to trying some of their other beers which undoubtedly are available by now.

Side note, I made it back into Copper Tank, against my will, a couple weeks ago for lunch and was pleasantly suprised. Good lunch menu and a REALLY good pasta bar, with an actual chef and everything! ;) Yes, their beer still reminds me of that which causes the stench in the downtown alleys, but at least the lunch was pretty good, for not an outrageous amount of $.

Ate there tonight, didn't try the beer/drinks but friend and I agreed:

Pretty pricey for the quality you get in food/service. Everything is pretty much overpriced "trendy" salmon, goat cheese, sauteed rare (insert world region here) smoked peppers spritzed with inert nitrogen and washed in ionized rare glacier water... you get the idea :) The burger was actually good, tho had to argue with the waitress to bring some "regular" ketchup for the fries rather than their special chef smoked tomato cinnamon ketchup that comes on the side... about 9 bucks, was still hungry tho.

friend had the rigatoni portabello dish in sausage/tomato sauce... it tasted like reheated hamburger helper lasagna with a smoky flavor... about 10.50

most everything else on the menu was similarly trendy item fish or chicken or pork tenderloin, most entrees were easily in the 16-22 dollar range.

Seems to cater to the dining-bored NW Austinite looking for something new to try which is fine...trendy just doesnt add that much appeal to me, so doubt I'd go back. Might be good for drinks/happy hour but I think I'd eat elsewhere if in a group. If you're a picky eater, you might find it hard to find anything that looks good on the menu, it was for me, YMMV.

IMO I don't see it being a popular spot unless the beer is exceptionally good or the menu varies often.

Atmosphere wise, very Coppertank-ish in layout but more BitterEnd-ish for content (more restaurant than bar) didnt see any pool tables or music venue like CT has if thats your bag.

I'm curious to see other similar or dissenting impressions...mine doesnt warrant repatronage....

I found the atmosphere unnecessarily pretentious as others have found. My cheeseburger (sorry, my Angus beefburger with Huntsman Cheese) was good, but you have to like Bleu Cheese. That was the only burger on the menu. It was served with a jicama-cabbage Slaw and garlic fries. Good, but not what I'd expect with a cheeseburger, and it took me a good while to get rid of that garlic aftertaste - wouldn't bother some, I'd expect.

I enjoyed the pint of 'black ale' that I had - $3.25.

The burger/fries/slaw combo was big enough (1/3 pound burger?) and at $6.95 not altogether unreasonable. Service was decent, though we somehow got served a lot quicker than most of the tables around us.

My colleague noticed on the menu a side for the pork tenderloin which was something like 'chunky onion/garlic applesauce.' Threadgill's it ain't.
