Believe me,I would love to expound on this but i've only lived here for two weeks....I'll visit these again and repost more info soon

so far i've enjoyed ( in no particular order)
HOUSE PARK BBQ
CASTLE HILL CAFE
CAFE JOSIE
HIGH LIFE CAFE
TOCAI
HOEKS PIZZA
G/M STEAKHOUSE
BASILS
CHINA HOUSE
MANGIA
CHEZ ZEE'S
IRON WORKS

so like I said, I'd really like to see this page go somewhere else instead of just people posting the address for tocai or looking for a fudge recipe....given a little more time here to develop a balanced opinion I will be a very active poster. The best advertising this industry has is by word of mouth....people have the power!

Well, I don't know about best openings, but these are my favorite restaurants right now.

Tocai (of course). By far the best restaurant in Austin for 1997.

Louie's 106. Expensive, but great mussels.

Poo Thai. Very good, spicy Thai food, especially if you order "Phil" hot (which is too hot for me). However, can have extremely long wait for food, but apparently that's improved recently.

Wok And Roll. Good, cheap Hong-Kong style fast-food. Open late. Love the name and the decor.

Boiling Pot. I like the sausages and the potatoes. Where else can you be so messy while you eat except at home?

Some of the really awful experiences I've had.

Poo Thai. Waiting for almost an hour for dinner one Sunday night. But the food, when it came, was really good.

All Indian restaurants. I've had one pretty good dinner at Mr. India Palace. It was an off-night because the next few times I went back, the food was oily and awful. Then there's the one that advertises that Indian food doesn't have to be spicy to be good. Right! Yuck!
